Gutter cleaning done by hand, with the downspouts actually tested

Debris out by hand, downspouts flushed and flow-tested, and the debris hauled off your property instead of left in a pile behind the garage.

A clogged gutter is a water management failure, not a cosmetic one. Overflow runs down the fascia and rots it, saturates the soil at the foundation, and finds its way into basements and crawlspaces.

What customers say

Yesterday, 1 July 2026, was our first experience with Shine's soft wash cleaning, window cleaning, and gutter cleaning (Shine has strung lights on our outdoor Christmas tree for at least the past two years). Zach was the sole worker yesterday, and he performed as though there were four crew members working on our house. We could not be happier with Zach and with Shine of Cincinnati. I will not hesitate a moment in recommending Shine.

What happens on the day

  1. Step 01

    Ladder the perimeter

Every run is accessed by ladder with standoffs so nothing rests on the gutter itself and dents the front edge.

  2. Step 02

    Hand-remove debris

Leaves, shingle grit, nesting material and packed sludge come out by hand into buckets. Blowing debris across the roof and into the beds is not cleaning.

  3. Step 03

    Flush and flow-test

Each downspout is flushed and watched at the outlet. If water does not come out the bottom, the clog is cleared before we call the run done.

  4. Step 04

    Inspect and document

Loose hangers, separated seams, rot behind the fascia and improper pitch get photographed and sent to you, whether or not it is work we do.

  5. Step 05

    Clean up and haul away

Beds and hardscape below the runs are rinsed and all debris leaves with the crew.

How pricing works

Every property is quoted individually after a walkthrough or a set of photos. These are the factors that move a gutter cleaning quote up or down.

  • Linear feet of gutter around the home
  • Number of stories and roof pitch affecting ladder access
  • How long since the last cleaning and how compacted the debris is
  • Gutter guards that must be removed and reinstalled
  • Adding exterior face brightening to remove tiger striping

Best time of year

After leaf drop, typically late November into December. Cleaning before the last leaves are down usually means a second visit. A spring cleaning also helps where maples and pines shed seeds and needles.

Common questions

What to expect

Do you need to be home?
No. We only need ladder access around the perimeter of the home.
How long it takes
Most homes take one to three hours.
How to prepare
Move vehicles and patio furniture away from the eaves and unlock gates so we can reach the full perimeter.

Not included in this service

  • Gutter repair, resealing, or re-hanging sagging sections
  • Installing gutter guards or downspout extensions
  • Fascia, soffit or roof repair
  • Clearing underground drain lines beyond the downspout outlet
  • Exterior gutter face brightening, which is a separate add-on
How often do gutters need cleaning?
Twice a year for most homes — late spring after seeds and helicopters drop, and late fall after the leaves are down. Properties under heavy oak or pine cover often need three.
I have gutter guards. Do I still need this?
Yes, less often. Guards keep leaves out but shingle grit, pollen and fine debris still accumulate underneath, and the guards themselves clog on top. Most guarded homes need service every other year.
What is gutter brightening?
The dark vertical streaks on the outside of aluminum gutters are oxidation bonded to the finish, and normal house washing does not remove them. Brightening is a separate hand-applied treatment for that specific staining.
Do you get on the roof?
We work from ladders wherever possible. Some roof lines require roof access, and we only do it where the pitch and shingle condition make it safe.
What if you find damage?
You get photos and a plain description of what we saw. We will tell you whether it is urgent or something to watch, and there is no pressure to have us do the repair.
